I’ve lived in District 8 more than twenty years. I’ve talked to the constituents of District 8. District 8 runs from up by the El Paso County Club, to down by Ascarate Park. From the Willows to Segundo Barrio. Despite their differences, the constituents of District 8 want pretty much the same things. Basic city services. They want their streets maintained. The want lower taxes. They want bathrooms in the parks. I don’t think that’s asking too much.
Nobody I talked to said they wanted an arena in downtown. Nobody said they wanted higher taxes.
City government is broken. City Government is tending to the things they think we want, and they’re neglecting the things we need.
But everyone wants lower taxes. And City Council doesn’t understand the relationship between taxes and spending. When you’re in a hole, stop digging. Right now we’re spending a lot of money on non-essentials, and we’re raising taxes every year. We need to cut back on that spending.
